For the first time in the country, Manipur is set to have its own mechanized rotary parking level or unit. At present, one mechanized rotary parking level, which is nearing completion, is coming up at Thangal Bazar within Khwairamband Bazar, opposite Nagamapal Kangjabi, at the heart of Imphal city.
This initiative is being taken up by Imphal Smart City Limited in collaboration with L T Elevators Limited of Kolkata under the Mechanized Rotary Parking Project. Each parking unit will have the capacity to park forty two cars using electronically controlled suspension technology, along with space for seventy two-wheelers.
In an exclusive meeting, Thounaojam Harikumar, Chief Executive Officer of Imphal Smart City Limited, said that three more mechanized rotary parking facility units are planned. These will be set up on the northern and southern sides of the new Manipur Secretariat building at Mantripukhri, and another at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal.
Imphal Smart City Limited is targeting completion of all four mechanized rotary parking levels by the month of May this year. Altogether, the four mechanized rotary parking facilities planned at different locations will accommodate one hundred sixty eight cars and two hundred eighty bikes, Thounaojam Harikumar added.
With the revised target date fixed for May this year, each mechanized rotary parking project or unit is estimated to cost around eight point four two crore rupees, with the total project cost amounting to approximately Rs. 33.65 crore.
The Chief Executive Officer further said that he is hopeful that once all four parking projects are completed, traffic congestion and the difficulties faced by pedestrians in Imphal city will be eased.
