Manipur University is going to celebrate Citizen’s Day on 13th October. Prof. H. Nandakumar Sarma, Vice Chancellor told IMPHAL TIMES, that this initiative is to create awareness among the people of Manipur and to learn more about Manipur University and its activities, the University has decided to welcome and make the campus open for all the citizen of the state to visit the University campus on 13th October, the day on which the University became a Central University in 2005.Prof Nandakumar invited all the public, students, teachers, Government officials, stakeholders to visit the University and explore the infrastructure facilities such as library, laboratories etc. This will help create a larger awareness among the general public about the University, believes Prof. Nandakumar.He also informed that recently the Indian Citation Index compiled by a India based non-profit group led by Prakash Chand, former Scientist NIS-CAIR, CSIR, published its ranking of 40 Central Universities based on Universities research activities and Manipur University comes at the 7th position among the 40 Central Universities. The report is based on the available data from 2004 onwards and our University is doing tremendously well which is an encouraging sign, feels Vice Chancellor of Manipur University.Prof Nandakumar said that all the achievement made by the University till date is because of support and cooperation from every section of the University, Government of Manipur, UGC, CSIR, MHRD, DST, DBT, other Government funding agencies, stakeholders, donors of the University and the public.
