The Department of Geography, Manipur University, organized a special event to commemorate World Wetlands Day 2025 at the Seminar Hall of the Geography Department, Manipur University. The event was held under the theme “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future” and aimed to raise awareness about the importance of wetlands, with a special focus on the wetlands of Manipur.
The celebration was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including the Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, Professor N. Lokendra Singh, who attended as the Chief Guest. The Dean of Human and Environmental Sciences, Professor S. Jibonkumar Singh, along with former Dean, Professor N. Deva Singh, joined as Guests of Honour, while the Head of the Geography Department, Professor Kh. Pradipkumar Singh, presided over the function.
A key highlight of the event was a special invited talk by Professor Th. Binoy of the Department of Life Sciences, Manipur University, followed by an engaging interactive session on the conservation and management of wetlands, particularly in Manipur. The discussions emphasized the ecological significance of wetlands, their role in biodiversity conservation, and the need for sustainable management practices.
The observance of World Wetlands Day 2025 at Manipur University served as a platform for meaningful dialogue on preserving these vital ecosystems and fostering a collective commitment to their protection.
