Manipur to fight cases of racial discrimination in New Delhi

Manipur government has appointed a panel of lawyers consisting of 11 members for fighting cases for victims of racial discrimination against the people of the state living in New Delhi.
Advocates namely N Kalyani Devi; Lenin Hijam; Nidhiram Sharma; A Rohen; Potsangbam Boyboy; Maibam Nabaghanashyam; David Ahongsangbam; Gaichangpou Gangmei; Ramesh Pukhrambam; Premjit and Henry Ahanthem were named in the panel for providing legal aid to the victims of racial discrimination, said an order by Nungshitombi Athokpam, Joint Secretary (Law), Government of Manipur.
According to a source from the Delhi Police, it has been informed that the panel will assist Nodal Officers for North East in Delhi.
The state government’s initiative to fight cases of racial discrimination in the National Capital with the appointment of lawyers’ panel has been welcomed by Delhi Police For Northeast Folks, a forum instituted by Delhi Police to redress Northeast people, who are in distress.
With the increased crime against Northeast people in Delhi, Delhi Police For Northeast Folks Delhi has been working on a campaign named ‘Know Your Legal Right Campaign For North East People’. Presently the team is led by Robin Hibu (IPS), Nodal Officer For Northeast Region.
The order also mentioned that the panel will charge some fees for appearing in the cases and drafting of papers.
However, when Imphal Times contacted some of the advocates concerns, they are yet to receive the assignment.
