Manipur targets to produce 1 lakh M/W of power from solar energy – CS

Imphal, April 18: As a part of Government of India’s target to generate 1 lakh M/W of power from solar energy, Government of Manipur has prepared to generate 105 M/W of electricity from solar energy, said Chief Secretary of Manipur.
Speaking to the media persons, O Nabakishore, Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur said that as the National Hydroelectricity Power Co-operation has shown some interest to set up 50 M/W solar power plant , visited the site at Yaithibi Loukol in Thoubal District which was earlier landmark to set up the National Sport University hoping that the area can be utilize for the solar power plant as the National Sport University has been sifted to Koutruk but unfortunately the site has the disadvantages of its low laying and hilly shade.
Though the site has been rejected, the solar energy power plant will be set up at a suitable site within the time period of 6 months, he added.
Nabakishore also said that State government in collaboration with National Hydroelectricity Power Co-operation has decided to set up this 50 M/W solar power plant in Manipur. They have even taken the necessary measures to set up a roof top solar energies as well as a unique solar park in the State, he added.
In-order to set up the solar power plant in the state, support and co-operation from the public is necessary in-order to find the proper site which has huge advantage.
