Imphal, Aug 3: Manipur’s own son, now the treasure of sister state Arunachal Pradesh, Dr. Kangabam Romeo Meetei is now the first mountaineering trainer to lead the Team Arunachal Mountaineering Expedition in reaching the peak of Mt. Stok Kangri (20163 feet) in Ladakh Himalayas range. The team reached Guwahati today.
Dr. Romeo, now serving as Adventure in-charge in the Department of Youth Affairs, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, and his team scaled the peak on July 24 at 8.50 am. He was leading the team of 6 mountaineers.
This expedition was conducted in latest alpine styles without support staffs to avoid damages in the glaciers and the peak itself.
The leader Dr. Romeo, who left Manipur after he failed to get a appropriate job here in Manipur is a trained Alpinist and experienced mountaineers who led the 1st women Mt. Everest Expedition in 2011 and put two women mountaineers on the top with world records- namely Anshu Jamsenpa and Time Mena of Arunachal Pradesh.
He had also successfully led 1st Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), All India Mountaineering Expedition to Mt. Gorichen in Indo-China border.
In recognition to his service for promotion of mountaineering and adventure sports, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh honoured him with prestigious State Award (Gold medal) twice.
