Manipur based NGO – Centre for Organisation Research & Education (CORE) is organising a Side Event on Human Rights in North East India: Development on June 16, 2015 from 17.30hrs-18.30hrs to at Geneva, Room Number XXV. CORE as stated, is an Indigenous Peoples NGO in Special Consultative Relations with ECOSOC of United Nations. The event is being co-hosted by Indraprastha Public Affairs Centre (IPAC). Both are constituent members of the Coalition on Environment and Natural Resources (CENRs) which was set up in November, 2012 to focus on development issues that have direct and indirect impacts on indigenous people’s rights. The coalition focuses on three main areas: Indigenous Peoples Rights and Natural Resources; Extractive and its implications on sustainable socio-economic development; and Women and Extractive Industries in the North-East Region of India.
A CORE press statement said that Babloo Loitongbam of Human Rights Alert, Dr. Immanuel Zarzosang Varte of Centre for Organisation Research and Education, Manipur, Mary Beth Sanate of Rural Women Upliftment Society and Convenor, CENRs and Narender Kumar of Indraprastha Public Affairs Centre will attend as speakers of the session. Ms. Helam Haokip, Women in Governance (WinG India) will be the Moderator.
