Kangpokpi, April 19:

The Manipur Police have issued a directive to all arms license holders and arms dealers in Kangpokpi district, requesting them to submit self-attested copies of their licenses along with a completed prescribed format to their nearest local police station by April 25, 2025, for verification.
The Office of the Officer-in-Charge of Saikul Police Station in Kangpokpi District, Manipur, stated that the directive is in line with the order issued on March 25, 2025, by the Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, and as per the Supreme Court’s direction in SLP (Cril) No. 12831 of 2022. The notice further clarified that non-compliance with the submission requirements may lead to penalization and cancellation of the licenses.
Local authorities have also been urged to ensure that gun license holders in their respective villages are notified of the verification process and comply accordingly.
This move comes amidst heightened security operations in the state following the imposition of President’s Rule. Earlier, on February 20, 2025, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla had appealed for the surrender of all looted arms and ammunition, which led to the recovery of nearly 1,000 weapons, including sophisticated firearms, along with a large quantity of ammunition by March 6, 2025.
