Imphal, Aug 27:

Manipur police have made significant arrests in their ongoing crackdown on insurgent activities. On Monday, six suspected members of the proscribed outfit Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) were apprehended. In a separate operation in the Nambol area of Bishnupur District, four cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) were also arrested.
The operations led to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, and other “warlike” weapons. The seized items include a pistol with live ammunition, three scopes, one tube-launching empty case, six mobile handsets, various military fatigues, and a four-wheeler vehicle.
Earlier, on August 24, 2024, police arrested three KYKL cadres from Changangei Uchekon in Imphal West District. The individuals, identified as Oinam Milan Singh (52), Yumnam Ranbir Singh (51), and Khaidem Dhanabir Meitei (24), were allegedly involved in extortion activities in and around Imphal. In their possession, authorities found three scopes, three live rounds of ammunition, one tube-launching empty case, a vehicle, six mobile phones, and various military fatigues.
In the Bishnupur District, the KCP-PWG members arrested are Khundrakpam Rojit Singh (28), Thokchom Sornu Singh (23), Khoirakpam Abhinash Singh (21), and Khundrakpam Victoria Devi (26). They are also accused of extortion in the Nambol area. From their possession, police recovered a pistol with a live round, four mobile phones, a vehicle, and Rs. 900 in cash.
The arrests are part of a broader operation aimed at combating insurgent-related crimes and extortion. Security forces conducted extensive searches and established area dominance in both hill and valley districts of Manipur. A total of 120 vehicles along NH-37 and 51 vehicles along NH-2 were escorted to ensure the safe transportation of essential goods. Additionally, 104 checkposts were set up across various districts, leading to the detention of 170 individuals for violations.
