Manipur observes International Yoga Day with enthusiasm at different places

Manipur joined the global community today in celebrating the 10th International Day of Yoga, with a state-level event held at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal. The event was graced by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who led hundreds in a unified session of yoga asanas.
Over 900 participants, including students, government officials, yoga practitioners, security personnel, and members of the public, gathered to mark the occasion. Governor Bhalla emphasized the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life, describing it as a transformative practice for physical well-being and mental harmony.
At Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal the International Day of Yoga 2025 was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Gymkhana Hall of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, under the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” as per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
The event was graced by Y. Rajendra Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, as Chief Guest, Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, as president, and Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, as Guest of Honour
In his address, Y. Rajendra Singh shared that the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare had deployed 30 to 40 senior officers nationwide to ensure smooth execution of Yoga Day events. He commended RIMS for its well-organized program and stressed that yoga should go beyond institutional observances to become a daily individual practice for better physical and mental health.
Kakching district also joined the nation in celebrating 11th International Day of Yoga 2025 at Multipurpose Community Hall, Kakching Mayai Leikai with the flagship signature event, Yoga Sangam. The event was organised jointly by the Kakching District Yogasana Sports Association, Kakching and Indian Red Cross Society, Kakching District branch under Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
The main highlight of the event was the practicing of different Yoga asanas by the participants. Around 300 participants attended the event.
The event was attended by Rohit Anand, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kakching and President of Indian Red Cross Society, Kakching District branch as Chief Guest and Shri Naorem Ibomcha Singh, President of Kakching District Yogasana Sports Association as President. Shri Naorem Sanjitkumar Singh, Caretaker Chairperson of Kakching Municipal Council, Shri Moirangthem Manihar Singh, Vice-President of Indian Red Cross Society, Kakching District branch, Dr. Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, Chairman of Indian Red Cross Society, Kakching district branch, and Shri Kshetrimayum Dharmadas Singh, President of Kakching District Olympic Association attended the event as Guests of Honour.
Also, International Yoga Day was observed at Kakching Municipal Council, various health facilities of Kakching District and at different police stations of the district.
The 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) was also celebrated at National Institute of Technology Manipur. The celebration commenced at 7:00 AM at the NIT Manipur campus with a brief inaugural address by Prof. Kh. Tomba Singh, Registrar of NIT Manipur, who emphasized the significance of incorporating yoga into daily life for physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Prof. DVLN Somayajulu, Director of NIT Manipur also participated in the event in virtual mode from IIITDM Kancheepuram.
A certified yoga teacher, Dr. K. Romeo Meetei, Faculty, The Art of Living Manipur guided about 217 participants (inside and outside the seminar hall) through a series of asanas, pranayama, and meditation techniques.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) celebrated the day at Bhaskar Prabha, Konjengleikai, Imphal. The event was jointly organised by Kreeda Bharati Manipur and the College Development Council of Manipur University under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
In his keynote address, RSS Leader V Bhagaiah emphasized that yoga is much more than physical exercise—it is a powerful spiritual and societal tool. “Yoga unites people, calms anger, brings peace of mind, purifies the body, and spreads love and harmony,” he said. “In a world plagued by wars and unrest, yoga offers a simple, ancient, and effective means to restore peace.”
The High Court of Manipur also organised a yoga session under the theme “ Yoga for Harmony and Peace’ at the High Court Complex today. Justice A. Bimol Singh and Justice A Guneshwar Sharma, Judge, High Court of Manipur along with the officials and staff of the Registry, members of the Bar Council of Manipur and High Court Bar Association of Manipur and officials and staff of the Manipur Judicial Academy participated in the event. The yoga day was also observed in all the District Court complexes in the State of Manipur viz. Thoubal, Bishnupur, Senapati, khrul, Tamenglong, Chandel, Cheirap Court complex, Lamphel Court complex, ND& PS Court complex, MACT Court complex and Manipur State Legal Services Authority. The International Yoga day is being observed in all the High Courts and District Judiciary across the country pursuance to the direction of the Supreme Court of India.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal (a constituent unit of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi) also organized the 11th International Day of Yoga. The event was held in collaboration with NSS Cell, Manipur University; State NSS Cell, Manipur; MSKA, Imphal; Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur; and Mera Yuva Bharat, Imphal West, under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Ministry of Culture, Government of India, New Delhi.
The 11th International Day of Yoga was also held at Sekmaijin Thongam Yoga Centre, organized by the Shomen Yoga and Naturopathy Research Centre.
