Manipur observes 79th Independence Day with statewide celebrations

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated across Manipur yesterday. The State-level celebration was held at the 1st Manipur Rifles Parade Ground, Imphal, with the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, unfurling the National Flag. Following the flag hoisting, Governor inspected the guard of honour and took salute to a march past presented by 33 contingents. The parade was commanded by Pramesh Arambam, MPS, Commandant, 4th Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB).
Participating contingents included the Jakli Army; the Assam Rifles; the BSF contingent; the CRPF; the Manipur Rifles; the IRB (male and female); Armed Police, Assam; the Combined Civil Police; the Manipur Jail Department; the Forest Department; the Home Guard and the Combined VDF contingents. The parade also featured the Manipur Fire Service; the Traffic Police; the NCC; the NCC Air Wing; Sainik School; Johnstone Hr. Sec. School; NSCB; T.G. Hr. Sec. School and Wangkhei High School. The band display comprising of CRPF, 1 and 2MR, 1st IRB, Home Guard, IW VDF and Sainik School accompanied the other marching contingents.
Elangbam Bhubaneshwor Singh, MPS (Retd.) was conferred the prestigious President’s Medal for Distinguished Service on the occasion of Republic Day, 2024. Kabib K., IPS, Inspector General of Police (Int/NAB), was honoured with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, and Oinam Premananda Singh, Inspector, CID (Special Branch), also received the Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Republic Day, 2024. Laishram Ramkumar Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, District Police, Ukhrul, was awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in recognition of his dedication to service.
The Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Independence Day, 2024, was conferred upon Maibam Somorjit Singh, Jemadar, 1st India Reserve Battalion; Chalamba Singh Ngangom, Assistant Sub-Inspector, District Police, Senapati; Ashok Singh Oinam, Havildar, 8th Manipur Rifles; Bonomali Singh Khangembam, Havildar, 6th India Reserve Battalion; Rojen Singh Mayanglambam, Havildar, 10th India Reserve Battalion; Nongthombam Biseswor Singh, Rifleman, 4th India Reserve Battalion; Premjit Singh Potshangbam, Rifleman, 6th India Reserve Battalion; and Rinkahao Ruivah, Rifleman, 6th Manipur Rifles, in recognition of their dedication, exemplary conduct, and devotion to duty.

Kakching:

Kakching District joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 79th Independence Day today. The district-level event was held at the District Sports Association (DSA) Ground, Kakching Turel Wangma, Kakching, where Deputy Commissioner Rohit Anand, IAS, attending the programme as Chief Guest hoisted the National Flag with the National Anthem reverberating across the gathering.
DC Rohit Anand reviewed the parade and took salute from 28 march-past contingents commanded by Ng. Suresh Anthony, MPS, SDPO Sugnu.
Altogether a total of 7 cultural troupes showcased different cultural performances in the celebration along with a Mock Drill by Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) – Red Cross Society Kakching and Yoga demonstration by Kakching District Yogasana Sports Association, Kakching. Also, a Wushu demonstration was displayed by the NN Mangang Wushu Academy.
Appreciation certificates were distributed to employees of the district as recognition for their performance. Priyadarshini Laishram, Superintendent of Police, Kakching district, Pangambam Shantikumar, ADM Kakching District, SDOs, SDCs, District Level Officers and staffs of different department in the district also attended the 79th Independence Day celebration.
The Headquarters 28 Sector Assam Rifles organised a Band Display and Cultural Programme to mark India’s 79th Independence Day and honour the bravery of Operation Sindoor at Khongjom War Memorial.
The celebration was attended by Col Imon Mukherjee, Addl DIG HQ 28 Sector Assam Rifles; Priyadarshini Laishram, MPS, SP Kakching; social worker Ksh. Kennedy; Col Shivendra, CO 46 Assam Rifles; officials of the force and their families, along with civil society leaders from Kakching and Thoubal districts.
The cultural segment featured performances by students of Assam Rifles Public School, Kakching, while the traditional Khukri Dance showcased martial heritage and discipline. The Pipe Band of 46 Assam Rifles and Jazz Band also performed in the evening.

Chandel:

The District Administration of Chandel also observed the 79th Independence Day at the ground of Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School, Chandel District Headquarters.
Deputy Commissioner of Chandel, Laishram Nandakumar, unfurled the National Flag and took the salute from the march-past contingents. He inspected the parade, which was led by Additional SP (Ops) Chandel, Dr. Ts. Chamna Anal (MPS), who acted as the Parade Commander.
The celebration was attended by Superintendent of Police Chandel, Dharmendra Kumar, 8th Manipur Rifles Commandant, N. Madhunimai, Additional Deputy Commissioner Chandel, Md. Firoz Khan, and 21st Assam Rifles Commandant, Colonel Amit Mane. Officers from various departments of the district, police personnel, village chiefs, and public leaders of Chandel also took part in the occasion
The event witnessed the participation of Chandel District Police, Manipur Rifles, NCC, students from colleges and schools of the district, along with cultural troupes representing different communities of Chandel, who showcased traditional songs and dances. The band party of the 21st Assam Rifles also performed during the celebration.
Appreciation certificate and commendations gifts were presented to outstanding employees of different departments, outstanding students, and village chiefs in recognition of their dedicated service.

Senapati:

The District Administration, Senapati also celebrated the same at Sanyi Dahrii Complex, Khabung Karong, Senapati.
The Deputy Commissioner of Senapati Mamoni Doley, IAS who graced as the Chief Guest of the function hoisted the National Flag and inspected the Parade contingents accompanied by Shaikh Mohd Zaib Zakir, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Senapati. The DC Senapati took the salute from 9 parade contingents consisting of Senapati Police, Senapati Women Police, CRPF B/ 109 Bn., CRPF D/ 173 and D/ 178 Bn., 4 th IRB, VDF, NCC JNV Mao, ICDS Anganwadi Senapati and 16 th Assam Rifle Band. The parade commander of 79th Independence Day was D. Theingam Thangal, MPS, SDPO Senapati.

Kangpokpi:

Kanpokpi District Administration also celebrated Independence Day at Brigadier M. Thomas Ground. Chief Guest of the function, Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi, Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS unfurled the National Flag with the tune of the National anthem in the background. Later the DC took salute of 24 marching contingent from Police, VDF, NCC and several government and private schools in the district. The parade was commanded by Shri L Lhunminlal Khongsai MPS, SDPO Kangpokpi.
The event was also attended by SP Kangpokpi Manoj Prabhakar, IPS; N.Shokngam Baite, ADM,MCS; James Doujapao MCS SH-ADC, SDO's, DLO's, citizen of Kangpokpi among others.

Noney:

Noney also join the celebration with event being held at Longmai III Public Ground at Noney District Headquarter today. The celebration was organised by the District Administration Noney with Dr. Sharath Chandra Arroju, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Noney District as the chief guest.
DC Sharath Chandra Arroju inspected the parade, took the Rashtriya Salute and also hoisted the National Flag before the march past in the presence of Superintendent of police Noney District, Shri Namsadai Peter Kamei, MPS and other dignitaries.
In the march past competition in the male category, Tazei Public Higher Secondary School, Tent Maker’s Academy and St Joseph School Khumji received the 1st prize, 2nd prize & 3rd prize respectively .
And in the female category, Tent Maker’s Academy bagged the 1st prize, Berean Baptist Academy 2nd prize and Sharon English School received 3rd prize.

Imphal East:

The District Administration, Imphal East, also organised the 79th Independence Day Celebration at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex, Porompat. The event was graced by Dr. Nivedita Lairenlakpam, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East, who attended the function as the Chief Guest. The celebration commenced with the National Anthem, followed by parade inspection and the hoisting of the National Flag.
As part of the ceremony, Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to individuals, organisations, and participants of the Rangoli and Rakhi Making Competitions held in connection with the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to community welfare and public service.

Jiribam:

Jiribam District also joined the nation in celebrating its 79th Independence Day at the Jiribam Higher Secondary School playground.
The ceremony commenced with the Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam District, Krishna Kumar, IAS, proudly unfurling the national tricolor.
The celebration featured performances from 12 contingents. Notable participants included the 87 Bn. CRPF, 7 IRB, National Cadet Corps (NCC), Jiribam Higher Secondary School, RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya, and the 38 Band of Assam Rifles.
A colorful display of Ras Leela was also performed by students from Jiri College.

Ukhrul:

Ukhrul District Administration also celebrated the day at Bakshi ground, Dungrei. Parade Commander of the function was Chongtham Sarjan Singh, MPS, SDPO, Chingai. Altogether 43 contingents participated in the march past. The first, second and third prize for the March past went to Oriental Naga Academy (girls), Sonyao Academy of Innovative Learning(SAIL) and Savior High School(boys) respectively.
Chief Guest of the function Asish Das, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul took the honour in hoisting the tri-colour and take the salute of each march past contingent in the presence of SP Ningshem Vashum, IPS, DLOs of various department, CSOs and the public.

Tengnoupal:

District Administration, Tengnoupal joins the rest of the country in celebrating the 79 th Independence Day at Tengnoupal High School ground, Tengnoupal. Deputy Commissioner, Tengnoupal Saurabh Yadav, IAS graced the celebration as Chief Guest. Soon after the arrival of the Chief Guest, reviews the Parade and hoisted the National Flag with “Rastriya Salute”.
March past contingents from District Police, District Women Police, 3 (NH) AR Band party, BSF, Anganwadi, Asha Workers, MSRLM, VDVF Tengnoupal Forest Division, St. Peter School, Tengnoupal, Chehlep Primary School Boys and Girls, NCC from EMRS Moreh participated in the celebration.
