Manipur Lokayukta Website Launched; Lokayukta Will Work For The Interest Of The Public: Chairperson Nandakumar Singh

The first Chairperson of the Manipur Lokayukta, Justice (Retd) T. Nandakumar Singh, today, launched the website https://lokayukta.mn.nic.in of the newly constituted Manipur Lokayukta, at his office chamber of The Manipur Lokayukta, 3rd Floor, Directorate Complex, 2nd MR, North AOC, Imphal. The Manipur Lokayukta Act 2014 (Manipur Act No. 11 of 2014) came into force with effect from 1st day of April, 2016.

Briefing the media persons, Chairperson Justice (Retd) T. Nandakumar Singh elaborated on the functions of Lokayukta. He said with the launch of the new website, cases will be shown and types of complaint to be accepted will be uploaded after due process. Lokayukta is a quasi judiciary authority for transparent administration of the State Government.  Lokayukta is for the people and it will work for the interest of the public, he added.

The Chairman added that the website will act as a window through which people will know the functioning of Lokayukta. Lokayukta will look into allegations of corruption and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto against Elected Public Officers, Public Servants and Public Functionaries for speedy redressal of grievances of the public. Lokayukta is a friend of the people and friend of the government. People should not refrain from lodging complain to Lokayukta out of fear or any inhibition. Lokayukta is an independent body having the sole authority of investigating and prosecuting allegations of corruption against Elected Public Officers, Public Servants and Public Functionaries, he added.

He further said that any individual can file a complaint to Lokayukta and the limitation period of a complaint is within a period of 7 years from the date of crime committed. If the case is a continuing process there will be no limitation period, he added. It will take up complaints filed against Ministers and senior IAS officers, he said. But every complaint will not be entertained and only those genuine complaints will be taken into consideration after preliminary enquiry. Complainants will be treated equally and will be given protection if need arises, he said.

The launching function was attended by T. Ranjit Singh, IAS, Secretary, Manipur Lokayukta, Officials and Officers of Manipur Lokayukta and NIC, Manipur.
