The Democratic student’s alliance of Manipur (DESAM) organized a “cycle rally” to observed world environment day with 100s of participants,and later hold a public meeting at THAU ground, under the theme of “seven billion, one planet, consume with care”.
students from various schools from imphal participated the cycle rally which was flagged off from DESAM head office at Keisampat junction and travelled through Singjeimei, kongba, wangkhei, dingku road. The organisers later held a public meeting in connection with world environment day. Speaking as chief guest of the function L. Joykumar singh IFS stated that the observation was meant to tackle environmental challenges that include climate change, global warming, disasters and conflicts, harmful substances, environmental governance, ecosystem management and resource efficiency. He further appealed to the people to make a habit of trees plantation.
During the function, divisional forest officer, central forest division, govt. of Manipur, L Joykumar singh, (IFS), President of DESAM M. Angamba Meitei, Social scientist, Dr. Dhanabir Laisharm and president, of AMWJU were present as Chief Guest, president and Guests of Honour respectively.
Manipur mountaineering, trekking, association and Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) also observed world environment day held at Maram Hebori Range.
Vice president of AMWJU Ratan luwang, former member ADC of Sanapati, P. Kaiso Mao, vice president of MMTA Samom Dirvanda, chairman of Mao pungdong, N Sahimai and chairman of EMPHIHVI, P. Kaihui. Highlighted the observation with the plantation of trees.
Meanwhile, a month long world environment day celebration concluded today organized by Royal Riders Manipur and Green Revolution Society Manipur. Highlighting the underlying need for collective efforts for protection of environment, the teaching staffs along with the students of Maharabi Primary School, Maharabi under ZEO Zone-1, Khoyathong, Imphal West Manipur observed the World Environment Day 2015 on 5 June at its campus to promote awareness on the importance of preserving our environment and ways to take corrective action. The celebration was started with a spring cleaning of the school surrounding followed by planting of more than 50 trees around the campus on the theme “plant a tree, plant a life”. Th. Dewan Singh, Head Master of the school told the students that planting trees is a part of maintaining the environment.
