Manipur joins the world in celebrating International Women’s day

International Women’s Day is being observed today. The day is celebrated on the 8th of March every year to help forge a gender-equal world, celebrate women’s achievements and their increasing visibility in every sphere of life. This day celebrates the cultural, political, economic, and social achievements of women. It also highlights the extraordinary roles played by women in almost every walk of life and celebrates acts of courage and determination by ordinary women. The theme this year is – Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.
The day is celebrated by various NGOs and government bodies. Celebrating the International Women Day’s MLA, 6-Keirao A/C Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei wash the feet of aged ladies at Kyamgei in Imphal East District. MLA Rameshwor also distributed monetary assistance to 170 self-help groups. Each SHG consisted of 30 women.
Kanglei Ima Lup (KILL) also celebrated the day with special priority to women who have been facing extreme hardship of working women.
ETA North-East Women’s Network observed the day at Khwairamband Keithel Ima Market complex. On the occasion, the ETA group honoured 30 women as “ women of substance”.
Nehru Yuva Kendra Thoubal in collaboration with the Council for Advancement of Rural Development (CARD) also celebrated the International Women’s Day at CARD, Thoubal Kshetri Leikai in Thoubal district
The presidium members spoke on the significance of International Women’s Day, the various achievements of womenfolk, schemes of the govt of India for women empowerment also and the importance of Gender Parity as a Sustainable Development Goal of the UN. DYO MICHAEL MATE also touched upon the role of women in the Indian National Army – Netaji’s Rani Jhansi Regiment, especially in light of 2021 being the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence as well as the 125th anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Legacy.
