Imphal, May 30:

Due to incessant rains brought by Cyclone Remal, the Manipur Government has issued a public advisory for personal safety and announced public holidays. The heavy rainfall has resulted in widespread flooding across Imphal West, Imphal East, Kangpokpi, Senapati, and Bishnupur districts. Thousands of homes, including the renowned Khwairamband Ima Keithel market, have been severely affected, with damages estimated to exceed Rs. 3 crore for the vendor ladies.
An advisory issued by Angom Heera Singh, Deputy Secretary (GAD), on behalf of the Governor of Manipur, stated that the government is actively conducting rescue and relief operations through the district administration and relevant departments.
The general public is urged to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel to facilitate the smooth execution of rescue and relief efforts. Residents stranded in floodwaters are advised to contact the helpline numbers provided by the respective Deputy Commissioners. Additionally, centralized helpline numbers have been established for emergency needs: 09233522822, 09485280461, 0385-2440028, 06909525816, and 0385-2912006.
In light of the ongoing situation, the Governor of Manipur has declared May 30th (Thursday) and May 31st (Friday), 2024, as public holidays for all government offices, including Public Sector Undertakings, Corporations, Autonomous Bodies, and Societies under the Government of Manipur. Additionally, under the powers conferred by the explanation under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, all banks, financial institutions, and LIC offices in the state will also remain closed on these dates.
Separate orders regarding the closure of schools and colleges were issued by the concerned departments on May 28th, 2024.
Departments involved in rescue and relief operations and essential services—such as Home, Police, District Administration, Relief & Disaster Management, Power, Health & Family Welfare, PHED, Water Resources, PWD, GAD, CAF&PD, MI, Forests, and LDA—will remain operational. Officers and employees of other departments will also be available via phone for any emergencies.
