Manipur Govt announces ex-gratia assistance to family of Rishikanta 

The Government of Manipur has announced ex-gratia financial assistance to the next of kin of Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh of Kakching Khunou Hijam Uchan Makhong Leikai in Kakching district, who was killed in Churachandpur.
In a statement issued by N Ashok Kumar, Commissioner-cum-Secretary Home, the State Government expressed serious concern over the incident involving the abduction and killing of Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh, son of M Tombi. According to the statement, Rishikanta was abducted along with his wife, Chingnu Haokip, from their residence at the district headquarters area of Tuibong under Churachandpur police station. He was later shot dead in the general area of Natjang village in Churachandpur district by unknown armed miscreants on January 21, 2026.
The statement said the State Government conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and shared in their grief and sorrow. As a gesture of support, the government announced ex-gratia assistance amounting to rupees ten lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.
It may be recalled that the Governor of Manipur on the previous day assured a delegation of the Joint Action Committee formed against the killing that the case would be handed over to the National Investigation Agency. The assurance was communicated to the media by Member of Parliament Bimol Akoijam after the delegation met the Governor. Members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly K Ranjit and Thokchom Lokeshwar also accompanied the Joint Action Committee delegation during the meeting.
The killing of Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh has drawn widespread condemnation and renewed demands for accountability and decisive action to ensure justice.
