Manipur flood fit to be declared as natural disaster: MLA

Thoubal,July 8: Dr Radheshyam Yumnam conducted a whirlwind tour of Hiyanglam AC to have a firsthand account of the damages caused by the ongoing flood and distributed food items to people who are affected by it. The MLA of Hiyanglam AC in the first stage visited Koidum and gave away 14 bags of rice, salt, pulses, edible oil, tea leaves, potato, and biscuits to the flood victims. In his words there are 145 households out of which 120 have already been submerged in flood water. In addition, around 350 ha of fish farms and CM takes stock of the flood affected victims crops, most of which are ready for harvest have gone under the water. However, the worst news is the flood water is still ascending steadily. Besides Khoidum the villagers of Sekmaijing Konuma, Laphupat Tera, Hiyanglam, Hiranmei, and Komnaonachi are reeling under the effect of the flood. The MLA said he and the state administration have extended maximum assistance to the flood victims and will continue to do so. He said the present flood deserves to be recognized as a natural disaster and in this regard he will approach the Centre to seek their assent.
