Manipur Congress President demands clarification on ‘Chin State of Manipur’ mention in NEC Vision Document

IT News
Imphal, Aug 19:

Manipur Congress President, Keisham Meghachandra, has raised serious concerns over the alleged mention of a “Chin State of Manipur” in the Vision India 2047 document drafted by the North East Council (NEC). Meghachandra has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to issue an official statement clarifying that no such state will be created and that the territorial integrity of Manipur will remain intact.
In a strongly worded statement, Meghachandra questioned the origins of the reference to a “Chin State of Manipur” and accused the BJP government of secretly plotting to disintegrate the state. “Who created this Chin State of Manipur in the draft of the Vision India 2047 document of the North East Council?” Meghachandra asked, adding that this could further exacerbate the ongoing crisis in Manipur, which has been in turmoil for the past 15 months.
The Congress leader expressed his concern that the proposed creation of this new state could be a deliberate attempt by the BJP to divide Manipur. He called it an “open invitation to disintegrate the existing State of Manipur into pieces.”
Meghachandra also criticized Prime Minister Modi for remaining silent on the matter, especially since the draft was prepared by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), which is under his government’s purview. He questioned why the Union Minister of DoNER, Jyotiraditya Scindia, has not yet resigned over this issue.
“Is the double engine government of BJP in Delhi and Imphal designing to create a direct threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur by 2047?” Meghachandra asked, demanding answers from the ruling party.
He further questioned the role of Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, asking what he meant by “factual error” when referring to the NEC’s document. Meghachandra suggested that the BJP-led government has “secretively and deliberately” planned the creation of a Chin State within Manipur, allegedly planning to make this announcement within the next three months.
The Congress leader’s statement has sparked a new wave of political tension in the state, as opposition parties rally against what they perceive as a threat to Manipur’s unity and territorial integrity.
