Manipur by-election: NEDA losses its significance, Left parties divided

The arrival of BJP campaigner Himanta Biswa , who is also the convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) , amidst war of words between BJP supporters and NPP supporters raised eyebrow to political observers in the state about the fate of NEDA.

At Wangoi, supporters of BJP and NPP are engaging in heated war of words to make sure that their candidates win this by-election. Meanwhile, source close to Imphal Times said that the Left leaning political parties of the state which have always go together, are divided this time with CPI Manipur State Council restraining support to any candidates while the CPI-M Manipur, Forward Block Manipur and the Revolutionary Socialist Party, Manipur, supporting Congress candidate Moirangthem Hemanta at Wangjing Tentha Assembly constituency.

However, speaking to reporters soon after his arrival at Imphal Ariport today, Himanta Biswa, the key BJP cabinet Minister of Assam, who is also the convenor of the NEDA said that the fight between BJP and NPP at Wangoi Assembly constituency is not going to effect to the functioning of NEDA.

“It happens in Assam and other state about coalition partner political party fighting election for the same seat”, a confident Himanta Biswa, who arrived in Imphal today to campaign for BJP candidates for the by-election at the 4 assembly segment.

Himanta Biswa arrival happened at a time when NPP MLA L Jayantakumar, who has been removed from the cabinet Minister recently, is lambasting the BJP and its candidate and when BJP hard core activist RK Shivachandra responding a befitting reply even by assuring that the BJP may not walk hand-in –hand with the NPP.

As the battle between the BJP and the NPP is reaching to a catastrophe at Wangoi Assembly constituency, political observers in the state are keenly observing the kind of speech that Himanta Biswa will deliver at Wangoi Assembly constituency.

Meanwhile, election meeting of the BJP candidate Paonam Brojen is being held at Wangjing Community hall today evening. BJP’s strong man Ajay Jamal, Himanta Biswa , State President Tikendra, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and other state BJP Ministers are attending the meeting at the time of filing this story.

On the other hand everyone knows Himanta Biswa is the convenor of NEDA and he visited the state to campaign for BJP for the by-election scheduled on November 7.
