Manipur Achieves Target Of Saubhagya Scheme

The target for electrification of households under the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGYA) in Manipur has been successfully achieved as per the data report of the REC (Rural Electrification Corporation).As per the data uploaded in REC portal, a total of 1.02 lakh households in nine divisions of the State as approved by the REC under the Ministry of Power, as on Oct 2017 were electrified under the scheme. The Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana – ‘SAUBHAGYA’ was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 25th September 2017. In Manipur, the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGYA) was launched by the Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R.K. Singh and Chief Minister of Manipur Shri N. Biren Singh. The scheme provides free electricity connections to the willing beneficiary households identified using Socio Economic Caste Census, 2011 data. Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC), a Navaratna CPSE under the Ministry of Power is the nodal agency for coordinating the implementation of the scheme. Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd. is the implementing agency for the State. Any beneficiary yet to be covered under the scheme will be provided electricity by March 2019.
