Man who visited MLA residence at Khurai with IED arrested; 20 lethod bomb found at Kakching district

A 47 years old person, identified as Aheibam Premchand from Khurai Sajor Leikai in Imphal East of Khurai Assembly constituency was arrested today morning while visiting the residence of Khurai Assembly Constituency MLA Leishangthem Susindro Meitei.
According to report, the person came to the residence of MLA Susindro along with a bag at around 6.30 am today morning. Security escort of the MLA when questioned the content of the bag, the person Premchand reportedly replied that it was IED (Improvised Explosive device). Alarm by the reply of the person the security escort overpowered the person and forced him to place the bag containing the IED at the roadside near the pipeline. The security escort then informed the matter to the Porompat police station which immediately rushed to the spot. Traffic was put to a halt for minutes along the Tinsid road while the police were trying to defuse the IED. Meanwhile, a team of Assam rifled who were on patrolling also arrived, and together with the bomb squad team from the state and the experts from the Assam Rifles, the IED was safely defused. Report said that a mobile hand set was also found inside the bag which indicated that someone from distance location could trigger the bomb any time.
The person Aheibam Premchand, who brought the bag to the residence of the MLA has been detained by the police and a case has been registered against him. Source said that, during interrogation, the person replied that he picked up the bag containing the IED near Boby Pharmacy located at Khurai.
At another development a team of Kakching police today recovered a bag containing 20 numbers of lethod bomb which could cause serious human tragedies if used by anti-social elements. Police team of Kakching district found the bag with 20 lethod bombs from Wabagai Yangbi Panchayat Ghar area at around 7 am today. Bomb squad team of the police rushed the site and took the lethod bombs near buffalo farm Kaching where they safely detonated.
