Man accused under UAPA nabbed from Maharashtra by Punjab police

A man accused in a case of unlawful activities was arrested from Nanded in Marathwada region of Maharashtra on Sunday by Punjab police with the help of their local counterparts, an official said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Gurpinder Singh Bagi (aged around 40), a native of Punjab’s Muktsar district, was accused under provisions of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Nanded police official said.
Two months back an offence was registered against four persons, including Bagi related to a serious crime in Amritsar. The four accused were stated to be in touch with Jagdish Singh Gulzarsingh of Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) based in Belgium. They were said to be involved in raising funds for KZF engaging local youth in militant activities.
The accused had fled from Amritsar and was working in Nanded since some time, the official said. On Monday, he was produced before a Nanded court which handed him over to the Punjab police. No prohibited material was seized from him.
In another development, the Maharashtra Police also arrested a Khalistan supporter in Nanded district on Sunday. He was identified as Sarabjeet Singh Kirat, basically from  Ludhiana in Punjab. A joint operation was launched by Punjab police with Nanded Police following which Kirat was held on Sunday night. An FIR has been registered under Section 154 CrPC against Kirat by Nanded police.
