The Makui Village Authority has urged the Kangpokpi district administration and police to take action against what it described as false, defamatory and inflammatory social media posts concerning Makui and Makui Thebram villages.
In a statement, the Village Authority said a Facebook page, “Zalengam Times”, on September 25 shared a video originally posted by another Facebook page, “CHIKIM-TEAWGIN”, claiming that cadres of NSCN-IM and ZUF-K were moving or patrolling in the Makui Thebram area while CRPF and CoBRA personnel were present nearby.
The Village Authority disputed the claim, alleging that villagers of Laloi Kuki village had illegally erected a bunker along the highway between Makui and Makui Thebram. It claimed that an unidentified Kuki individual recorded the CoBRA team from the bunker when the security personnel visited the area for inspection following the alleged burning of Makui Thebram village on September 23.
According to the Village Authority, the circumstances surrounding the security team’s presence were subsequently distorted by “CHIKIM-TEAWGIN” and circulated further by “Zalengam Times”.
The Village Authority also objected to a post attributed to an X account identified as “M S Haokip (Kuki Ka Parivar)”, which allegedly claimed that the Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi, had ordered CRPF personnel stationed at Makui Naga village to open fire on Kuki villagers of Chaljang.
Terming the allegation false, misleading and defamatory, the Village Authority also condemned the use of the term “Kachha Naga village” in reference to Makui.
The Village Authority questioned the apparent lack of action despite the Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi, being tagged in the alleged post. It said such posts could further aggravate communal tensions between the two communities.
It appealed to the Kangpokpi district administration and the SP’s office to initiate appropriate action against the dissemination of what it described as false, inflammatory, defamatory and communal information.
The Village Authority demanded that “Zalengam Times”, “CHIKIM-TEAWGIN” and M S Haokip publicly apologise, remove the alleged inflammatory posts and refrain from making what it described as defamatory and provocative references to Makui village.
It further warned that failure to comply would compel the Village Authority to file criminal complaints before the competent authorities under applicable provisions of law.
