Maku Village denounces fraudulent use of identity in KCC loan default list

Special Correspondent
Ukhrul, August 8:

The Maku Village Authority has issued a strong condemnation following the discovery of fraudulent use of its name in a list of defaulters under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, allegedly dating back to 2011.
In a press note issued by Chairman Qr. Aleng Shaiza of the Maku Development Council, the authority stated that upon thorough verification, it was confirmed that none of the individuals listed as loan defaulters are, or have ever been, residents of Maku Village. The note highlighted that fictitious names were fraudulently linked to the village, enabling impersonators to withdraw funds under false pretenses — all without the knowledge, consent, or involvement of the village’s legitimate residents.
Calling the act a “serious case of fraud and misrepresentation,” the village authority expressed deep concern over the potential legal and financial implications for innocent citizens. “Such malicious misuse of our village’s identity tarnishes our reputation and will not be tolerated,” the statement read.
The Maku Village Authority has demanded immediate clarification from the concerned financial institutions and responsible authorities, urging them to address the matter with urgency. It warned that failure to provide a satisfactory explanation within a reasonable period would result in legal action and formal complaints to higher authorities.
The statement also appealed to all relevant departments to investigate the case thoroughly, identify those behind the fraudulent entries, and take corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
