Mahila Congress leader to Manipur CM: “Either solve the problem or leave your position”

President of the All India Mahila Congress Committee, Netta Antoinette D’Souza who is on a three-day visit here in Manipur and took stock of the violence affected people of the state digs to both the central and state government to the violence in Manipur.
Talking to reporters at Hotel Yaiphaba in Imphal before leaving Manipur Netta Antoinette D’Souza said that both the central and the state governments have to take responsibility for what has been happening in Manipur.
“The Chief Minister of Manipur should either solve the problem or leave his position”, Netta Antoinette D’Souza said.
The Mahila Congress leader also came down heavily to the atrocities met by the women of the state. She said that the Chief Minister of Manipur had stated that there are over 100 cases that had happened during the violence that erupted in the state since May 3 while responding to media in connection with the viral video that depicted the torturing of two women and parading them naked in broad daylight by an unruly mob. If it is so the Chief Minister and his government should identify those victim ladies and punish the culprits at the earliest possible time.
“The Chief Minister had himself said that there are 100 of cases where atrocities against women happened like the one that was out to media. We want to Chief Minister to identify those cases so that women get justice. We also want these women to be taken care of by giving them proper psychological counselling”, Netta Antoinette D’Souza said.
When asked about a solution to what has been happening in Manipur, the Mahila Congress leader said that the government must initiate peace talks between the two warring groups. She said that the government must heal the wound on both sides and it is the government’s duty to ensure the safety of women. The Mahila Congress leader also said that displaced people want to return to their own places. The government should provide security for the safe return of the displaced people due to the violence she said. She also asked the government to provide proper medical facilities and essential items to those taking shelter at relief camps.
On the demand for a separate administration by the Kuki MLAs, Netta Antoinette D’Souza said that it is to the wisdom of the Prime Minister and the government to decide on the demand.
The Mahila Congress leader Neta Antoinette D’Souza arrived in Manipur on July 21. She along with the Mahila Congress delegates had submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur.
