Mumbai:July 10:

The Maharashtra Government has decided to provide round the clock security to Dr. B.R.Ambedkar heritage bungalow located at Dadar in Central Mumbai, following an attempt to vandalize it by miscreants, even as police arrested one person in this connection on Thursday.
Located in Hindu Colony, the two-storey heritage bungalow houses a museum where  Ambedkar’s vast book collection, memorabilia, his ashes and other artefacts related to his life are preserved. The architect of the Indian Constitution lived there for two decades.
Current residents of Rajgruha include Dr Ambedkar’s daughter-in-law and his grandsons –  Prakash Ambedkar, Anandrao and Bhimrao. Prakash Ambedkar, was in Akola in Vidarbha region, when the incident took place.
The miscreants smashed some flower pots, damaged plants, CCTV camera and pelted stones at a window before fleeing on Tuesday night. Based on CCTV footage one Umesh Sitaram Jadhav (35) was arrested by Matunga Police, who was assisting the main culprit. The main accused is still at large. It is not clear why he indulged in stone pelting. The arrested person is a menial labourer.
A case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code Section 427 (mischief causing damage) and Section 447 (criminal trespassing), the police official said, adding that the police were examining the CCTV footage and further probe was on.
The unidentified accused who was captured in CCTV seemed to be mentally unstable. He was spotted near the house on Monday evening. When he was asked why he was loitering, he glared at him in anger and left, Bhimrao Ambedkar told the police.
In the meanwhile Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has asked Mumbai police to take strict action against the accused and find out at whose behest he did this misadventure, since “The premise is not just a sacred place for Ambedkarites, but the entire society. Ambedkar preserved all his writings in this premise. This is like a pilgrimage centre for all Maharashtrians,” he said and added that “The government will not tolerate insult to Rajgruha”. The incident, evoked condemnation from political leaders and the state cabinet decided to provide round the clock security to the venue.
