Imphal, April 21:
Manipuri Chanura Leishem Marup (Macha Leima) commemorated its 55th Foundation Day at its headquarters in Palace Compound today. The event was graced by the presence of W. Amusana, President of Macha Leima, along with senior members who joined as dignitaries on the dais. Staff from Macha Leima School, Micro Finance, and well-wishers also participated in the celebration. A poignant moment was observed with a two-minute silence to honor the memory of members who have passed away.
Established on April 21, 1969, Macha Leima was founded through collaboration with female student leaders from colleges and schools with a primary objective of advancing women empowerment. During its inception, the organization encountered numerous challenges in organizing women’s groups. In 1972, Macha Leima, in conjunction with People Welfare Organization (PWO), jointly organized Khongjom Day, marking a significant milestone in its journey.
In a bid to nurture a sense of national character, Macha Leima School commenced its educational endeavors on June 1, 1972. Additionally, the organization launched a quarterly journal and actively participated in cultural integration initiatives under the leadership of former Chief Minister of Manipur, MK Priyobrata.
Furthermore, Macha Leima has placed a strong emphasis on commemorating the contributions of the Nupi Laan women of 1904 and 1939. Since December 12, 1973, Macha Leima has annually observed Nupi Gi Numit, reaffirming its commitment to preserving and honoring the legacy of these pioneering women.
