Lukmai Sellup anniversary held honouring vendors

The second anniversary of the Lukmai Sellup was celebrated today at the Manipur Press Club, honoring the resilience and contributions of women vendors in Manipur’s iconic Nupi Keithel (Women’s Market). The event highlighted the historical and cultural importance of Nupi Keithel, emphasizing its role in empowering local women and preserving Manipuri traditions.
Chongtham Kamala addressed the gathering on the legacy of Nupi Keithel, while Chongtham Jamini and Chungkham Silaramani, who were also guests at the event, spoke on important issues facing women in the market. They discussed the vital role that Nupi Keithel plays in providing economic independence and social strength to Manipuri women.
In a special tribute, veteran vendors Nepram Ongbi Chaoba and Thangjam Ongbi Bimola were honored with the title Lukmai Panbi, recognizing their courage, sacrifice, and decades of dedication to their profession. This recognition aimed to inspire younger generations to uphold the values and resilience symbolized by the market.
