Imphal, Feb 23:
Prakash Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary of Manipur has called the return of looted weapons “the first and foremost step” in restoring peace in the state. He urged the immediate surrender of all unauthorised weapons within the stipulated seven-day period, warning of strict action against those who fail to comply.
Speaking at a distribution event for bicycles and looms to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Imphal East district, PK Singh stated that the government’s seven-day deadline provides ample time for individuals to return such weapons. Addressing concerns over the timeframe, he remarked, “If they can surrender, they can do it in one day.” He further cautioned that security forces would launch operations to retrieve weapons if they were not voluntarily returned within the given period.
On the security of national highways, PK Singh acknowledged the necessity of additional security forces but did not specify a timeline for their deployment. He also assured that efforts are underway to support displaced persons, ensuring their well-being and resettlement.
Outlining the government’s strategy to restore normalcy, he highlighted key focus areas, including securing national highways, fostering trust among communities, and facilitating the resettlement of IDPs.
