Kakching, April 3:
The repeated transfers of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kakching district have hindered its development, and the newly appointed SP, Priyadarshini Laishram, should not be reassigned elsewhere, stated M. Brojen, spokesperson of the United Club Organisation (UCO), a collective of six clubs at a press meet held today.
Brojen further said that people had high hopes that the imposition of President’s Rule would bring transparency and fairness. However, barely a month after her posting in Kakching, SP Priyadarshini Laishram has been transferred, a decision which is strongly opposed and condemned. The transfer order should be revoked immediately and if the people’s demand is ignored, we will be compelled to launch protests, added Brojen.
On the other hand, nearly 60 women staged a protest in Kakching today, opposing the transfer of Superintendent of Police (SP) Priyadarshini Laishram, MPS.
Protesters voiced their dissatisfaction, citing SP Priyadarshini’s proactive efforts in maintaining peace and law and order in the district. They also expressed apprehension over the current Deputy Commissioner (DC), who is not a local Manipuri, and the newly appointed SP, who they claim has limited familiarity with the region’s ground realities and lacks engagement with local communities.
Priyadarshini Laishram was appointed as SP (Immigration) before being transferred to Kakching district on March 1 and assumed office on March 3. However, just a month later, on April 1, 2025, she was transferred to Jiribam district.
She is among several civil and police officials who have faced frequent transfers since AK Bhalla assumed office as the Governor of Manipur. Reports indicate that some officials have been transferred up to three times within a single month, raising concerns over administrative stability.
