Locals of Khurai AC stir to revoke NFSA

Imphal, July 16: Volunteers of Khurai Apunba Nupi Lup, Communist Party of Manipur State Council and Khurai Action Committee today afternoon stormed Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East Office Complex demanding to revoke the contentious National Food Security Act (NFSA) that is causing social havoc in the state owing to widespread allegations of misappropriations in distribution of rations under it.
The incident broke out after the womenfolk of Khurai Assembly Constituency raided the residence of Shanti of Khurai Chaithabi Leirak, who is an agent of NFSA of Khurai A/C, and seized a large quantity of rations from his house.
From there, they marched a rally towards the DC complex along with the confiscated bags of rations demanding to revoke the act which does not meet its purpose to serve the common people, a woman leader expressed anguish over the misuses of rations by agents and authority.
