Licensed vendors demand proper arrangement for street vendors

IT News
Imphal, July 05: Licensed vendors of Purana Bazar Khwairamband Market today staged a sit in protest at three different sides of the Market demanding the government to provide an arrangement of the non-licensed street vendors or they will stop paying tax to Imphal Municipal Council.
Speaking to the media persons, Secretary, Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham amadi Saktam Kanba Lup, T. Ibenu Devi said there has been a lot of disturbance caused by the non licensed street vendors coming from different parts of the state. She further said that it’s been four years that the licensed vendors reoccupied their respective stalls in the markets. However, many problems including the dispute of vending space and street vendors still remained pending in the state. The government and IMC are responsible for all these. She also said that the increasing number of street vendors adversely affected the business of licensed vendors and ultimately reduced the importance and uniqueness of the market.
Government should take up actions to stop building of innumerable shops in the temporary shed meant for the street vendors. If the government make an arrangement for the street vendors there will not be any unwanted incident among the vendors and the markets will be neat and clean.
