The Liangmai–Imphal Market was officially inaugurated today at the Ideal Club, Sagolband Tera Keithel, marking a significant step in strengthening economic and cultural ties between the Liangmai community and Imphal city. The event was organised by the Liangmai–Imphal Market Committee and brought together community leaders, farmers, and public representatives.
Former Chief Minister and current Heingang MLA, N. Biren Singh, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Former Minister Awangbow Newmai, Tamei MLA, and Sapam Kunjakeswor (Keba) Singh, Patsoi MLA, were present as Guests of Honour. The presidium included R. Machundoubou, President of Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur, and Kh. Chingkhei Luwangcha, Chairman of the Liangmai–Imphal Market Committee.
Speaking at the inauguration, N. Biren Singh said, “This market is not just an economic space but also a bridge of unity, bringing together communities, farmers, and entrepreneurs under one roof to strengthen local trade and cultural ties. I extend my best wishes to the Liangmai–Imphal Market Committee, the Liangmai Naga Council, and all stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality. May this market grow as a hub of prosperity, harmony, and shared progress for Manipur.”
The programme commenced with a welcome speech by Athonliu Chawang, President of Liangmai Pui Naga Ruangdi, followed by a keynote address from Nongthombam Sanajaoba, Convenor of the Market Committee. The inauguration also saw the opening of stalls featuring farm produce, vegetables, fruits, and other items cultivated by Liangmai farmers, creating a direct link between growers and consumers in Imphal.
Organisers stated that the market is intended as a permanent platform to support farmers’ livelihoods, provide fresh produce to consumers, and foster economic self-reliance within the community.
