The Liangmai Imphal Market Committee has condemned the reported armed attack on Naga civilians along the I.T. Road in Kangpokpi district, in which four people were killed, one injured and another reported missing.
According to the committee, the incident occurred at around 8:30 am between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga, allegedly involving armed cadres of the Kuki National Front (President), Kuki National Front and Kuki Revolutionary Army.
The deceased were identified as Tadsongbou Ringkangmai, founder and principal of Right Path School, T. Khullen; Mariakdibou Wijunamai and Anil Wijunamai, executive members of Makui Youth Club; and Wisobou Charenamai, chairman of Chawangkining Village Authority and vice-chairman of the Liangmai-Imphal Market Committee. Gaikamang Ringkangmai was injured, while one person remains missing, the committee said.
The committee held the state government accountable for what it described as a failure to adequately protect civilians and demanded immediate security measures along the I.T. Road.
It also called for an impartial investigation into the alleged involvement of the three armed groups and demanded the identification and arrest of those responsible, irrespective of their affiliation.
The committee further urged authorities to intensify search operations for the missing person and ensure the safety and free movement of civilians along the road.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, it called on all communities to reject violence and urged the authorities to ensure justice without fear or favour.
