Liangmai body condemns Thonglang incident

The Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur has issued a sharp condemnation of an alleged violent incident at Thonglang Naga Village near Zaimeng Lake on March 21, reportedly involving Kuki armed militants operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Government of India.
In a strongly worded statement, the organisation questioned the credibility and enforcement of the SoO framework, stating that such incidents expose serious lapses in monitoring mechanisms meant to uphold peace and stability in the region. It warned that any breach of the agreement risks eroding public trust and aggravating the already fragile situation in Manipur.
The body alleged that the incident led to intimidation and disruption affecting innocent civilians, and asserted that the safety, land, and rights of indigenous communities must be safeguarded without compromise.
Stating that the Naga community has maintained restraint in the interest of peace, the organisation called for reciprocal responsibility from all stakeholders. It demanded a prompt and impartial inquiry, strict accountability for those involved, and stronger oversight of SoO-bound groups to prevent further violations.
Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful coexistence, the Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi cautioned that continued lapses could undermine efforts toward long-term stability in the state.
