Thoubal, Feb 25:
District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal under the aegis of Manipur State legal Services Authority organised a Legal Literacy cum Awareness Programme at the New Public Higher Secondary School, Khangabok at 1:00 PM. The event was organised on the topics “Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012” and “Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) Act, 2015”.
Smt. Kshetrimayum Sarankumari Devi, Remand Lawyer, DLSA, Thoubal gave speech as resource person to the students of Class 9 & 10 of the School. In her speech, she explained what are the frequently used provisions relevant to our current society related to the above two acts, how the children under the age of 18 are to be handled by the police during their arrest, interrogation and how the perpetrators of crimes are reformed at different kinds of Observation Homes. She further continued with the procedure on how to file complaints and apprehend the culprit on becoming a victim of sexual and related offence, how the culprits are punished and lastly how the POCSO act is exploited and abused by unwanted parents of Juveniles who had love relations/eloped or married etc. and recounted various instances of how it played out in court.
The event was attended by the students of Class 9 & 10 of the school, its faculties etc
