A one-day Legal Awareness Programme was held today at Salungpham Mayai Leikai Community Hall, organised jointly by the Legal Aid Clinic, Heirok, Salungpham Youth Club, and MSRLM, Wangjing CD Block, under the supervision of the District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal.
The programme was attended by Block Mission Manager of Wangjing Tentha CD Block, Dr. Sarungbam Ronel Singh, as Chief Guest, Chairperson of Kangyambem Gram Panchayat, W. Chaoyaima Singh, as President, and Officer-in-Charge of Heirok Police Station, Leimapokpam Amit Singh, as Guest of Honour.
Panel lawyer of the District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal, Khoisanam Lembisana Meidingu, participated as a resource person and delivered a talk on the “Victim Compensation Scheme & Domestic Violence”, while another panel lawyer, Khoisanam Jeton Meitei, spoke on “POCSO Act-2012 & Detention, Arrest and Bail”.
Delivering the keynote address, Wahengbam Jiban, Coordinator of the Legal Aid Clinic, Heirok, said the programme was organised to create legal awareness among the public, with special focus on women. He stated that such initiatives are essential to help people understand their legal rights and remedies.
