The last rites of two siblings who were killed in a militant attack earlier last month at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district were performed today after 25 days amid an outpouring of public grief.
The victims were killed in a projectile attack on April 7, allegedly carried out by suspected militants in the village. Their mother was also injured in the early morning incident.
Following the attack, tensions escalated sharply in the area, with reports of a mob storming a camp of the Central Reserve Police Force and opening fire. In the ensuing violence, three civilians were killed and several others injured, further intensifying unrest across the Imphal Valley. The bodies of the three victims were accepted by their families earlier on April 24.
Today morning, family members and relatives collected the mortal remains of the siblings from the mortuary of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences before proceeding to their native locality for the final rites. Large numbers of people gathered along the route from RIMS to Tronglaobi Awang Leikai to pay their last respects and offer floral tributes.
Upon reaching the village, the final rites were conducted at Lamthabung Ground in Torbung, where relatives, locals and community members assembled to bid a tearful farewell.
