Landslides cut off NH-37

Vehicular movement along National Highway-37, the Imphal–Jiribam Road, has been completely disrupted following multiple landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in Tamenglong district.

According to police sources, a major landslide occurred at Shantikhunou near the CRPF camp between Sibilong and Kaimai villages under Kaimai Police Station. Additional landslides were reported at Oinamlong Zero Point and Nungdolan, rendering the highway impassable.

Authorities estimate that restoration of traffic may take another two to three days as efforts are underway to reconstruct diversion roads at the affected locations.

In view of the disruption, the security convoy escorting loaded trucks from Jiribam towards Imphal was cancelled on Wednesday. Several empty trucks travelling from Imphal to Jiribam have also been stranded at various points along the route.

NH-37 is one of Manipur’s key supply routes, connecting the state with Assam and facilitating the transportation of essential commodities.

Restoration work is in progress, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
