Lamphelpat once more turn as dumping site

Imphal, Nov 9: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s promises to safegaurd the Lamphelpat by converting it into wetland, turn out to a bunch of joke to the people of the state as the site is now used as a dumping site by the Imphal Municipal Corporation.
This is the second time that the site has been used as dumping site by the IMC. Earlier too the site has been used as dumping site by the IMC. As the garbage pile up has become hazardous for the people living at the area, locals complaints about the matter but was not listened by the IMC authority.
On May 5 this year, locals of the area complaint the matter to the Chief Minister following which dumping of garbage at the site has been stopped. But recently the IMC started dumping the garbage at the site. The site is close to the IYUSH hospital. Talking to Imphal Times, a local said that garbage has been spoiling the Lamphel pat.
Reason for dumping of the garbage at the site while having solid waste management plant at Lamdeng could not be known. But source said that the solid waste management plant at Lamdeng in Imphal West is not functioning at the moment.
