Residents of Lamdeng have strongly refuted a misleading claim circulated on social media alleging the kidnapping of a school student in the area.
According to the viral post, a student was said to have been “rescued from being taken up to Lamdeng Ching.” However, locals clarified on Sunday that no such incident had ever occurred.
Addressing reporters at Lamdeng in Imphal West, Thangjam Jamuna, speaking on behalf of the Lamdeng Makha Leikai Women Development Association and the local club, dismissed the claim as baseless and unfounded. She asserted that no kidnapping case had been reported from Lamdeng and urged the public not to be misled by fabricated information.
The residents expressed concern that the circulation of such false reports could misguide the public, create unnecessary panic, and tarnish the image of the locality. They cautioned individuals against spreading unverified information on social media platforms, especially on sensitive matters such as child safety.
Appealing for responsible use of digital platforms, the residents urged social media users to verify facts before making posts that could harm community relations or defame a neighbourhood.
