The Twilang Area Kuki Civil Society Organisations (CSO) Coordinating Media Cell has appealed to Naga civil society organisations operating along the Imphal-Tamenglong Road (IT Road) to ensure the unhindered movement of civilians, ambulances, medical personnel and essential supplies.
In a statement issued after a meeting held today to review the situation in Twilang Area, the media cell expressed concern over what it described as restrictions on civilian movement, difficulties in accessing healthcare and the resulting humanitarian hardships.
The committee also expressed concern over the prevailing political situation in and around the area, while recalling the longstanding ties, peaceful coexistence and social interaction between the Kuki and Naga communities.
It said the present crisis could be addressed through dialogue, mutual respect, responsible engagement and reconciliation, and called for renewed communication between the two communities to address mistrust and differences peacefully.
The committee urged Naga CSOs along the IT Road to refrain from obstructing civilian vehicles, particularly those carrying essential goods and people requiring urgent assistance, and to ensure safe passage for ambulances and medical personnel.
It also appealed for cooperation with humanitarian and medical movements irrespective of community affiliation and called for effective communication and coordination between Kuki and Naga stakeholders to prevent further misunderstandings and facilitate a return to normalcy.
The media cell said protection of civilian life, access to essential healthcare and unhindered humanitarian movement should remain above community and political differences, and urged responsible leadership and constructive engagement from all sides to prevent further civilian suffering.
