The Komrem Students’ Union, Delhi, has expressed deep grief and outrage over the killing of 19-year-old Manipuri student Joseph Serto, reportedly by senior students at NERIM College in Guwahati, Assam. The union described the incident as a grave failure of oversight and discipline within the educational institution.
Highlighting the need for immediate action, the student body demanded that the Government of Assam, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, and law enforcement agencies take the strongest possible measures without delay. They called for a prompt, transparent judicial inquiry to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested, prosecuted, and punished to the fullest extent of the law.
The Union also urged mandatory accountability for the school administration, including a full investigation into the institution’s supervision, anti-ragging policies, and incident response. They demanded protection, legal support, and timely compensation for the victim’s family.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, the Komrem Students’ Union warned that any attempt to shield the guilty or dilute the case would be regarded as a denial of justice, reaffirming their resolve to seek systemic reforms in educational institutions.
