Koireng led UNLF observes 61st Foundation Day

The United National Liberation Front (UNLF) led by N. C. Koireng observed its 61st anniversary at various locations on Tuesday. According to a statement issued by M. Shak-Hen, Secretary of Publicity, Central Committee of the outfit, the event was held at the organisation’s Central Headquarters, the General Headquarters of the Manipur People’s Army (MPA), its battalions and units both inside and outside Manipur, along with participation from sympathisers.
The central observance was held at the outfit’s Central Headquarters, where Chairman N. C. Koireng, Officiating General Secretary M. Iboyaima and Secretary of Health and Family Welfare O. Chingkheinganbi served as presidium members. The ceremony was attended by Secretary of Agriculture and Environment Y. Abo; Secretary of Organisation Ksh. Yoiheiba; Secretary of Finance M. Munan; Central Committee member and Military Affairs Committee representative K. Puyaning; and Vice Chief of Army Staff of the MPA L. Khongnangthaba, among other departmental officers.
The programme included a two-minute silence in honour of those who had died in connection with the outfit’s armed activities. Hoisting of the organisation’s flag and offering of what it described as a revolutionary salute formed part of the day’s rituals. The statement of the Central Committee was read out during the event, and leaders of the organisation reportedly delivered speeches.
The statement further claimed that the Koireng led UNLF reiterated its stance to continue its armed campaign against India, asserting that it seeks what it described as the restoration of Manipur’s “lost freedom”. It added that the turnout at the observance was interpreted by the group as public support against what it termed the “occupation” of Manipur.
