KNO, ZRO boycott CM Khemchand’s Churachandpur visit

The Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the Zomi Re-unification Organisation (ZRO), currently engaging in Suspension of operation with the government,  have jointly resolved not to participate in any programme connected with Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh’s proposed visit to Churachandpur on May 15.
Report said that the decision was taken during a joint meeting of the two organisations held on May 11 at the residence of the ZRO president.
The meeting also resolved to establish a Joint Monitoring Cell (JMC) to monitor alleged communal content being circulated through social media platforms, including WhatsApp groups, WhatsApp channels and Facebook pages. The monitoring mechanism will be jointly supervised by the secretaries of KNO and ZRO.
The two organisations reaffirmed that their common political demand for a Union Territory with Legislature, adopted after the outbreak of violence on May 3, 2023, remains unchanged.
The issue relating to the use of the term “Kuki-Zo” was also discussed during the meeting, with ZRO leaders reportedly objecting to the nomenclature and proposing the use of “Kuki-Zomi” instead. The matter will be deliberated further in subsequent meetings.
