Kishorchandra Wangkhem released following High Court order

Kishorchandra Wangkhem, who was arrested by the State Police and later detained under National Security Act (NSA) after granting bail by Court was released today following Manipur High Court order.
The Manipur High Court has ordered the release of Kishorechandra Wangkhem, who was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) 1980.
The High Court order comes after the wife of Kishorchand, Elangbam Ranjita filed a letter petition to the Manipur High Court.
Kishorechandra Wangkhem, a journalist of The Frontier Manipur, was arrested by the police under NSA for a Facebook post over the demise of then Manipur BJP president S Tikendra Singh due to COVID-19.
According to reports, a two-judge bench of the Manipur High Court comprising Chief Justice PV Sanjay Kumar and Justice Kh Nobin Singh ordered the release of Kishorechandra Wangkhem by 5 pm Friday.
“The operation of the Order dated 17.05.2021 passed by the Government of Manipur against the petitioner’s husband, Wangkhemcha Wangthoi @ Kishorchandra, under Section 3(2) of the National Security Act, 1980, shall stand suspended till the next date of hearing. Further, there shall be an interim direction to the respondents to ensure that the petitioner’s husband, Wangkhemcha Wangthoi @ Kishorchandra, aged 41 years, s/o (L) W.Birendra Singh of Keishamthong Moirangningthou Leirak, P.S. Imphal, District-Imphal West, presently detained in the Central Jail, Sajiwa, is released forthwith and in any event, not later than 5 pm today, upon his furnishing a personal release bond for a sum of Rs 1000/, if his further incarceration is not required in connection with any other case”, The High Court order mentioned.
“Cow dung and cow urine doesn’t work. Baseless argument. I will eat fish tomorrow,” Kishorechandra had posted on his Facebook page after the demise of BJP leader S Tikendra Singh.
Earlier, Manipur activist Erendro Leichombam was released on Monday evening following the Supreme Court’s orders.
He was released two months after he was detained under the NSA for his Facebook post criticizing BJP leaders for advocating cow dung and cow urine as a cure for Covid-19.
Kishorechandra Wangkhem and Erendro Leichombam were arrested on the same day.
