KIM blames government for protester’s death, rejects free movement policy

IT News
Imphal, March 10:

The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has held the government responsible for the death of Lalgouthang Singsit, who was killed during a mass protest in Kangpokpi against the free movement initiative.
In a statement, Khaikhohauh Gangte, General Secretary of KIM, asserted that the organization strongly opposes the free movement initiative, claiming it threatens the fragile order in the region. “Allowing the Meitei to enter Kuki-Zo areas will worsen the conflict. Until a comprehensive political solution is reached—ensuring lasting peace and addressing the aspirations of the Kuki-Zo community—this policy cannot be accepted,” the statement read.
KIM urged the Central Government to take a more proactive approach in resolving the crisis by prioritizing justice for the affected communities. The group stressed that justice must address the root causes of the conflict and recognize the unique grievances of the Kuki-Zo people.
Expressing condolences to Lalgouthang Singsit’s family, KIM hailed him as a martyr, praising his dedication to the Kuki cause. The organization also acknowledged the support of the Kuki-Zo community, women, and student organizations, urging them to remain steadfast until a satisfactory political resolution is achieved.
