Imphal, July 17: A large number of womenfolk under the banner of Khurai Area All Manipur Nupi Marup today stage mass protest rally against the failure of the concern government department in distributing allotted share of ration t the beneficiaries under National Food Security Act (NFSA) today afternoon at Khurai and Kongpal area here.
The rally is being staged as part of the ongoing agitation against the embezzlement of rations for food security card holders at Khurai Assembly constituency. During the protest rally protestors also demanded to implement the National Food Security Act in a fair manner. They demanded to issue the food security card to all beneficiaries without any delay and open fair price shop at the earliest for the locality.
Even if the Act has been implemented the due share of the beneficiaries were not distributed. Agents and officials have been playing games at the time of giving out due shares of rations to the people. What is the use of implementing the Act if the card holders are deprived of their right to avail the entitled benefits, asked one of the protestor.
Arrested leader Released
Meanwhile, Police today released, Ningthoujam Premila Devi (40), w/o late N Bikramjit Singh of Khurai Sajor leikai, who was arrested today morning by a team of OC, Imphal East in connection with yesterday’s protest demonstration against the misuses of rations under NFSA at Imphal East district.
She was picked up by the police from her residence for allegedly spearheading yesterday’s rally that marched towards the DC Complex Imphal East.
She was set free at around 1.30 pm today.
