New Delhi, Dec 16:
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a parliamentary session, accusing him of avoiding the crisis in Manipur while actively campaigning for elections elsewhere in the country.
Speaking in the Upper House, Kharge remarked, “Amit Shah has bought a big washing machine. Whoever goes inside it comes out clean.” He further alleged that the government adopts a vindictive approach toward regions that do not support them electorally, stating, “If a state or region is not voting for you, you should not take revenge.”
Kharge questioned the Prime Minister’s absence in Manipur despite the ongoing unrest in the state. “PM Modi goes for elections everywhere, but he is not ready to go to Manipur. Rahul Gandhi went there and even undertook a yatra. You have so much security, but despite that, you are not going there. Why are you not solving this problem?” he asked.
The remarks come amid continued demands from the Opposition for greater accountability from the government regarding the situation in Manipur. Kharge’s comments have added to the ongoing debate in Parliament over the handling of issues in the northeastern state.
