Manipur Police has formally arrested Haobijam Dilip Singh alias Taibangnganba (52), chairman of the proscribed KCP (Taibangnganba), in connection with a case registered at Singjamei Police Station.
According to a statement issued by Manipur Police on Sunday, Dilip Singh, a resident of Keibul Lamjao and presently residing at Bishnupur Mamang Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district, was taken into formal custody after being brought from Tihar Jail, where he had been lodged earlier. The arrest was made in connection with an FIR registered at Singjamei Police Station.
The formal arrest of the KCP chairman came as security forces intensified intelligence-based combing, cordon and search operations across the state to curb insurgency, extortion and other criminal activities. Search operations and area domination exercises are also continuing in fringe and vulnerable areas of various districts.
In another significant operation carried out on June 27, security forces arrested Thokchom Bango Singh alias Ibopishak alias Utomba (44), a self-styled Captain of the RPF/PLA, from the Khongjom area in Thoubal district. During the operation, police recovered a 9 mm pistol with a magazine, 97 live rounds of ammunition and a Toyota Fortuner without a registration number.
Security forces also apprehended two active cadres of the KCP (PSC-Politburo Standing Committee) for their alleged involvement in extortion activities. The arrested individuals were identified as Koijam Lamyanba Meitei alias Punshiba alias Ningol (23), who was arrested from the FCI Godown at Sangaiprou in Imphal West district, and Lourembam Rojit alias Lamnganba alias Pukhri (19), who was apprehended from the Ningel Lamkhai area near Yairipok in Thoubal district.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police seized 540 grams of suspected heroin (brown sugar) from a bus under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district during a separate anti-narcotics operation. Police said efforts are underway to arrest the absconding driver, Md. Warish (33) of Nungei Khongban.
The police further stated that security measures remain intensified across the state, with 113 naka checkpoints established in both the hill and valley districts. As part of its drive against traffic violations, Manipur Police issued 64 challans between June 22 and June 28, collecting fines amounting to Rs. 1.37 lakh, besides removing tinted films from eight vehicles during the period.
